Toni and Jamil | Destination Wedding – Punta Cana Dominican Rep.

Have I mentioned I have the best job in the world?  (You need to know that about me… that and also that I love chocolate, but chocolate doesn’t handle the heat of a Dominican Republic destination wedding very well!)

I get a call one day from Toni, the bride-to-be. I had photographed her sister’s wedding several years earlier and Toni asked me if I would be available to shoot a wedding on Dec 1. Sure, but that’s a weekday, yes… well, as Toni put it, there’s a catch… are you willing to come to Punta Cana Dominican Republic with us?  Um, yes!  Not only do I get to watch whole families grow and change but now they are taking me with them to their destination weddings. Again, can you see why I would love my job!?

Toni and Jamil have known each other forever and all friends and family felt it was about time they tied the knot!  They love to travel and a destination wedding couldn’t be more suited to them.

After several planning meetings and phone calls, the details were all worked out and the big day arrived. The resort they picked was lovely, the ceremony was everything Toni had dreamed of for her destination wedding and the party… the party!! Well, never before have I seen a party like that. With the groom’s families traditions and the fantastic personalities of all involved, even I got into the dancing by the wee hours of the morning.

Toni told me that hiring me to come and paying for all the costs we discussed didn’t cost her much more than the top wedding photography package at the resort; and, with me, she had a local photographer whom she could easily talk to both before and after the big day. She knew I spoke English, she knew how I would behave, my photo style, my personality. She has told me she advises every destination couple to seriously consider bringing the photographer with them. The photos are too important to leave up to chance. And, she would know, since she is a travel agent who helps other brides plan destination weddings. If you want to chat with her, drop us a line, we’ll put you in touch. She has told us she is happy to even just offer some advice if you are planning a destination wedding.

Thanks Toni and Jamil for  allowing me to be a part of your wedding. I will forever be grateful for the opportunity and I love that I now get the chance to photograph your new darling little boy. Thank you for being a part of my world.
